Who doesn't love garlic bread! So delicious! A fantastic side to serve with shrimp scampi.

Garlic Bread preparation step 1

Ingredients

Servings:
8
  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 1 stick (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • salt, to taste
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) olive oil
  • 6 garlic cloves, pressed
  • 1 tbsp parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup (50g) Parmesan cheese, shredded (can also use 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella)

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the bread in half lengthwise.

  2. 2

Mix the butter, olive oil, garlic, parsley, and salt until well combined. Spread the mixture over the bread. Sprinkle with cheese.

  3. 3

Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, until golden and lightly toasted.

  4. 4

Slice into 1-inch (2.5cm) slices, serve, and enjoy.

    Soft Garlic Bread Variation

Prefer a softer garlic bread? Here's another way to do it! After preparing your butter mixture, slice the bread into 1-inch pieces without cutting all the way through the bottom. Spread a teaspoon or so of the butter mixture between each slice. Wrap the loaf in aluminium foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 15 minutes. This keeps the bread lovely and soft while the garlic flavour infuses throughout.

FAQ

Can you make garlic bread ahead of time?+
Yes! You can spread the garlic butter mixture on the bread, wrap it tightly in foil, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours—just bake it straight from the fridge, adding 2-3 minutes to the baking time. You can also freeze it for up to 3 months and bake from frozen for about 12-15 minutes.
What can I use instead of Parmesan cheese?+
Mozzarella works great as mentioned in the recipe, but you can also try Pecorino Romano for a sharper flavor, Asiago for a nuttier taste, or even a mix of cheeses. Skip the cheese altogether if you prefer, and the garlic bread will still be delicious.
Why is my garlic bread soggy?+
You're likely not baking it long enough or your oven temperature is too low—make sure it's fully preheated to 400°F and bake until the edges are golden and crispy, not just warm. Also avoid adding too much olive oil, as this can make it greasy instead of crispy.
How many servings does this garlic bread make?+
A standard loaf of French bread sliced into 1-inch pieces yields about 12-14 pieces, making it perfect as a side for 4-6 people or as an appetizer for 6-8 guests.
