Slice your ribs into individual ribs. Place in a pot of salted water and bring it to boil. Cover, reduce to maintain a simmer, but the most gentle simmer. Continue to simmer covered for 1.5 hours.
In the meantime, sauté some onions in oil until softened and beginning to brown. Place these onions into a baking dish.
Remove your ribs from the boiling water and drain them gently. The meat will be falling off the bone so be gentle when you handle them. Either with a brush or your hands, spread some barbeque sauce all over your ribs; be careful not to break the meat. Place these sauced ribs on top of your onions. Sprinkle some kosher salt or other spice rub, if using, over the ribs. Cover with aluminum foil.
You can refrigerate these for up to 48 hours and serve them at your desired time. Or you may immediately proceed to the next step.
Preheat the oven to 350°. Bake your ribs, covered, for about 20 minutes (if they were still warm,) longer if they were refrigerated. The amount of time will also depend on how many ribs you used. If you have a huge pan filled with ribs they may take close to an hour to heat up. Just keep checking. All that's required in this step is to heat the ribs up, so as soon as you are happy - remove from the oven and serve! Enjoy!
